CITY SEEKING CITY MANAGER
The City of Apalachicola is accepting applications for the city manager position. Located on the Apalachicola River and Apalachicola Bay in the Florida panhandle, the City has a vibrant history and rich maritime culture. The City has a population of 2,000, and is situated on one of the least polluted, most undeveloped, ecologically diverse estuaries left in the United States.
The city manager acts as the chief operating officer of the city government responsible for the administrative oversight of each department within the city and perform duties as delegated by the Apalachicola City Commission and the city charter. The City employs 30 people and operates with approximate annual budget of $3.7 million. The city form of government is commissionmanager.
The ideal candidate would be an experienced manager who can help the City secure a prosperous future, has a strong working knowledge of state and federal grant programs and experience in successfully expanding revenues, obtaining grants, familiar with Florida laws pertaining to municipalities, experience in managing utilities, the ability to motivate and empower staff, and the desire to respond to citizens in a timely, professional and courteous manner.
Challenges and opportunities include an aging infrastructure, a small tax base, very active tourism economy and growing base of second home owners and retirees.
The minimum qualifications for the position are: a bachelor’s degree in public or business administration from a four-year college or university, or similar degree in management, related profession; financial management experience is desirable, plus 5 years experience as a municipal administrator or managerial experience which entailed supervision within various departments of a city. Knowledge of personnel relations, utilities, finance, public safety, and planning are essential.
The annual salary for this position will be a minimum of $65,000 subject to increase based upon qualifications and experience, plus a benefits package including health, dental, vision, and insurance; Florida Division of Retirement, and sick and vacation leave.
